What we collect
Your email and account details when you sign up. Everything you put in your recipe box: recipes, collections, cover photos you upload, cooking notes and ratings, meal plans, and shopping lists. Pantry data, including items you type in and anything read from photos of your shelves, product barcodes, or shopping receipts you scan. Your settings: dietary preferences, allergens, disliked ingredients, spice and sweetness preferences, nutrition and portion inputs, units, language, and theme. Basic technical data needed to run the app, such as your approximate request origin for abuse protection.
AI processing
Text, links, and images you submit are sent to an AI service to do the work you asked for: structuring recipes, estimating time, servings, nutrition and allergens, translating recipes, reading pantry photos, barcodes and receipts, and generating illustrated cover images. Recipe translations are cached per recipe and language so the same translation isn't paid for twice; you can remove them by deleting the recipe. We don't sell your data, and if sponsorships ever appear they will not be targeted using your data.
Where it's stored
Your account, recipes and uploaded or generated cover images are stored in a secure managed database and file storage, protected by per-user access rules so only you can read your own data. Some preferences (theme, language, view choices, an unsaved recipe draft) are kept in your browser rather than on our servers.
Public share links
If you create a share link for a recipe, that recipe becomes readable by anyone who has the link, without an account, and visitors can translate it into another language. No other part of your account is exposed. You can turn a share link off again from the recipe.
Connecting AI assistants
RecipeHive can be connected to a third-party AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT) through an optional integration. It is off unless you set it up yourself: connecting requires you to sign in and approve the assistant on a consent screen. Until you do that, no assistant has any access, and we never hand your data to one on your behalf. Once approved, the assistant acts as you and can read and add recipes and collections, read and add pantry items, read and edit your meal plan, and add cooking notes; it cannot see other users' data, and it cannot see your password. Anything the assistant reads from your account is then handled by that provider under its own privacy policy, which is outside our control, so read theirs before connecting. To revoke access, remove the RecipeHive connection in the assistant's own settings, or delete your RecipeHive account, which removes the connection along with your data.
Installing and offline use
RecipeHive can be installed as an app on your device. Installed or not, the app stores small amounts of data in your browser to remember your settings and keep pages fast. Clearing your browser data removes that local copy; your saved recipes stay in your account.
Advertising and sponsorships
Right now RecipeHive shows no ads and no sponsored content, and we don't use third-party advertising trackers or ad cookies. To keep RecipeHive free, with no subscriptions and no charges, ever, we may introduce carefully chosen sponsorships or ads in the future. When we do: they will be contextual, matched to what's on the page, such as cooking, rather than based on tracking you around the web; we will not sell your personal data, including recipes, pantry, health and fitness inputs and notes, to advertisers; your nutrition and fitness profile and your dietary and allergen settings will never be shared with advertisers or used to target ads; anything sponsored will be clearly labeled as such and kept out of the way of cooking, never inside cooking mode. If we ever work with an ad partner that requires cookies or tracking, we will update this policy first and note the change clearly on this page before it takes effect.
Your choices and deleting your account
You can edit or delete any recipe, note, pantry item, plan entry, or preference at any time. Settings offers account deletion: you're prompted to export your recipes first, and confirming permanently removes your account and all of your data, including uploaded and generated images. Deletion can't be undone and we don't keep a copy.
A note on allergen and health info
Allergen, dietary and nutrition info shown in the app is AI-estimated from recipe text, not verified medical data. Don't rely on it for serious allergies or medical decisions: always check ingredients yourself.
